Gil Nelson has published several hundred images for a variety of books, magazines, and other publications. He is the author of eight single author books, all of which are wholly or substantially illustrated with his color photography.
He served as the lead photographer and primary design technician for Linda Chafin's Field Guide to the Rare Plants of Florida, published by the Florida Natural Areas Inventory (2000).
His photographs have appeared, with his writing, in such publications as Backpacker Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, Florida Wildlife, Georgia Journal, Louisiana Conservationist, Nature Photographer, Tallahassee Magazine, Tennessee Conservationist, and the Tallhassee Democrat, and he has contributed numerous images to the Atlas of Florida Native Plants.
